smoking weed stems

In the times of covid, we’ve all done some pretty weird or crazy things we otherwise would never do or try. So we understand why you may be thinking about smoking weed stems.

As enjoyable as it is to save money and be resourceful. Smoking your stems isn’t going to do you any good.

First, they contain little to no THC, definitely not enough to get you or anyone high.

That being said, if you’ve ever asked yourself, “can you smoke weed stems?” you’re not alone. Not only that, but we don’t believe there is such a thing as a stupid question when it comes to marijuana use and safety. So let’s get the ball rolling!

What are Weed Stems & Can You Smoke Them?

Sometimes when you’re loading a bowl, joint, or bong, you’ll find a little twig or stick-like pieces mixed in with the flower

How many stems you get depends on many factors, including how it was grown, where you bought it, the strain, and what cut of the plant it is. Higher-quality strains and reputable dispensaries tend to contain fewer stems than low-quality brick weed.

But what if you still got them? Would it be okay to smoke weed stems?

If you’re still tempted to start smoking weed stems, please don’t. It tastes like you’re eating a pile of woodchips, and some users have reported intense abdominal pain and nausea after partaking.

What’s more, you won’t get stoned from smoking weed stems — but you will put yourself in potential danger.

The added risk factors and side effects you’ll be subjected to if you decide to blaze weed stems include intense coughing, headache, a sore throat, not to mention what it’s doing to your lungs

It doesn’t matter what you’re smoking — the smoke alone is enough to damage your lungs in addition to the added risk of being exposed to carcinogens and other toxins that get released when the cannabis stems get heated and combust.

This type of lung damage puts you at risk for contracting lung disease, heart disease, cancer, and premature death.

Can You Smoke Marijuana Seeds?

Definitely not.

Like marijuana stems, the seeds won’t provide you with any psychedelic effects. As they won’t get you high — no matter how many you smoke.

This is because any THC contained in them would be so minuscule it would be impossible to get high from it.

Sometimes you can accidentally smoke cannabis seeds that find their way into your bowl. Making a snap, crackle, and pop when you light it, but it shouldn’t cause much of a problem except a little irritation in your throat and lungs.

Repurposing Your Weed Stems

The good news is that even though smoking weed stems is not an option. You can effectively repurpose them in several different ways!

What you can do with your cannabis stems will depend on how many you have laying around. But here are some ideas you can use to make them a little more palatable:

Weed Stem Tea

Before you get your brew on, you first need to decarboxylate your weed stems and make them softer by baking them in the oven at 225°F for about 45 minutes on an oven-safe baking sheet.

Once you have them all nice and toasty. You’ll be able to easily grind them up and put them in a tea infuser. Place the infuser in a mug, boil your water, and steep for 10 to 15 minutes, and voila! You have cannabis-infused weed stem tea.

No diffuser? Simply use a coffee filter instead!

Make Butter

The beautiful thing about making cannabutter is the fact that it can be used in almost any dish or recipe you can think of, and it tastes incredible.

To start, you’ll want to bake weed stems in the oven for 45 minutes at 225°F before cooling and grinding. Just like we did for the tea.

Next, melt some butter in a pan over low heat. After the butter is melted, throw in your ground-up stems and let them simmer for about a half-hour, making sure to stir often.

Now that you have sufficiently infused your weed stems into butter. You’ll need to strain it by placing a cheesecloth over a mason jar or other glass container and secure it with a rubber band. Slowly pour the butter into whatever canister you want to cool, store your butter in, and refrigerate until it hardens. Voila, your cannabutter is ready!

Weed Stem Lotion

While this is the most unconventional weed stem DIY on our list — weed stem infused topicals are both practical and innovative. It would provide moisture for the skin, but it can also help relax muscles and soothe various skin ailments like eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin.

To make weed stem lotion, bake and grind the stems the same you would do for the butter and the tea. Then warm up some coconut oil in a saucepan over low heat.

Throw your ground-up stems in the coconut oil, stir for 20 – 25 minutes, and remove from heat. Pour into a glass container and cover with cheesecloth and a rubber band, then set aside.

In the same saucepan, you’ll want to toss in some beeswax until it’s thoroughly melted. Once it’s melted, add in your infused coconut oil mix, and feel free to add in whatever essential oils or fragrance to the mixture. Transfer to its final container and let it cool!

Smoking Weed Stems – You Have Better Alternatives

As you can see, weed stems aren’t entirely useless. In fact, they can serve you beyond taking up space in your ashtray.

While you don’t want to smoke them or the seeds. You can save them and transform them into something useful. Try and stretch your dollar even further for both practical and safety reasons.

Now that you’re equipped with this newfound knowledge. We strongly recommend keeping a container or jar close by so you can collect your items. We can turn them into productive members of society.
